Virtual Friendship - Clarification

I received hate emails. Yay, controversy is good! Judging by those emails a few people misinterpreted my Virtual Friendship diatribe. Allow me to clarify.

The internet is a good place to meet new people. Check

The internet is a good place to keep in touch with people you already know. Check.

Please tell me you can see something just a little odd with someone that you have been talking to on the internet for 8 years who lives 15 minutes away, has your phone number, has expressed intent to meet and never does.

Are you seriously asking me to consider this a friendship? lol
